When I first picked up the iPad I knew that I would mainly use it to consume media like movies and books, and also play the occasional game. Being a fan of puzzle games, I quickly searched the AppStore for a game that would keep me interested.
A quick search of the games category in the AppStore led me to Azkend HD. Based on the screenshots, the game looked simple enough and pretty enough for me to stay interested. I’m notorious for starting games and not finishing them. If I don’t get addicted to it the within the first hour or so of playing it, chances are, I won’t return to it or even finish it.
The Game: The premise of the game is simple: you are placed in the mystical land of Azkend and your job is to return to the Temple of Time and return a lost Relic. You make different stops throughout Asia, with each stop representing a step closer to the Temple of Time and a different level in the game. Each level is the same, you need to draw with your finger and string together similar tiles to make matches. Clear the board in time and you move on to the next level.
Graphics: I thought that the graphics looked great. Then again, this was my first game on the iPad so I don’t have much to go one.
Sound: The soundtrack does become repetitive and annoying at times. I found myself turning the music off for about half of the levels played.
Difficulty: The game was a challenging fun rather than frustrating fun. I did think that some of the later levels should have been a bit more difficult. It took me about 5 hours of total game play (in a span of two weeks) to finish the game in adventure mode.
Cons: Once the game is completed you can’t play random levels that you have already completed in adventure mode. I would have liked to have re-played the levels that I didn’t earn “stars” in (a star is received if you complete a level within a certain amount of time).
